IntegrityNext Launches CBAM Cost Simulator to Help Importers Forecast Emissions Costs
New tool enables EU importers to estimate future CBAM certificate obligations and plan financially under the evolving regulatory framework.
Munich, New York, November 04, 2025 – IntegrityNext, a leading provider of supply chain sustainability solutions, today announces the launch of the CBAM Cost Simulator. The new feature enables EU importers to estimate their future financial exposure under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and better prepare for the cost impact of embedded emissions in imported goods.
Changes ahead: CBAM moves into implementation phase in 2026
As CBAM moves from its transitional phase into full implementation in 2026, EU importers face a new set of binding obligations and financial exposure. Several key requirements will come into effect — all contributing to increased complexity and cost pressure. The recent Omnibus amendments underline the urgency and dynamic regulatory developments around CBAM. Now officially published in the EU Journal, the changes confirm a reduced threshold of 50 tonnes, a mandatory "Authorized CBAM Declarant" status by end of May, 2026, and annual emissions reporting requirements starting in 2027. From February 2027, companies will be required to purchase CBAM certificates to compensate for embedded emissions — despite continued uncertainty about emission values, carbon prices, and cost allocation rules.
Why financial planning matters now
For many importers, CBAM is not only complex — it is also uncertain. While reporting obligations are becoming clearer, the cost implications remain difficult to estimate. Companies often lack supplier-specific emissions data, benchmarks are evolving, and carbon prices are volatile.
These uncertainties create specific challenges across functions. Procurement teams lack the tools to simulate and compare CBAM-related costs across suppliers. Sustainability teams face difficulties quantifying emissions liabilities using default or incomplete supplier data. But especially for finance leaders, the challenge is significant: they must forecast multi-year certificate obligations without a clear cost baseline — all while navigating growing regulatory pressure and rising CO₂ prices.
“CFOs want to understand which suppliers drive the highest CBAM costs, when to purchase certificates, and how to translate carbon exposure into clear KPIs,” says Till Reiter, Chief Product Officer at IntegrityNext. “Our goal is to turn uncertainty into actionable planning — and to give finance leaders the tools they need to align cost, compliance, and strategy.”
The CBAM Cost Simulator: A new interactive planning tool
The CBAM Cost Simulator, now part of IntegrityNext’s CBAM compliance suite, provides importers with forecasting capabilities to assess future certificate obligations and costs under EU rules. It helps organizations understand the long-term financial implications of CBAM and prepare accordingly.
The simulator enables users to input CN codes and import volumes to generate a ten-year forecast of expected emissions, certificate needs, and associated costs — giving finance, procurement, and sustainability teams the clarity they need to take action.
This launch is part of IntegrityNext’s broader strategy to support customers not only with compliance workflows, but also with financial foresight:
“CBAM is not just a compliance requirement — it's a financial risk factor that needs to be quantified and managed. With the Cost Simulator, we’re giving finance teams the ability to forecast costs and make smarter sourcing and budgeting decisions, ” says Till Reiter, Chief Product Officer at IntegrityNext.
Key benefits
- Combines key data in an intuitive interface: forecast charts, summary cards, and breakdown tables
- Automates complex CBAM calculations and integrates price forecasts
- Enables 10-year cost simulations aligned with EU rules
- Supports sourcing decisions based on carbon-adjusted cost comparisons
- Informs budgeting and long-term investment planning
What’s next
The CBAM Cost Simulator will continue to evolve in line with regulatory changes. Future updates will integrate supplier-specific data, EU benchmarks, and official default values for carbon price deductions — ensuring the tool remains a reliable resource for long-term planning.
The CBAM Cost Simulator is now available as part of the IntegrityNext CBAM Solution.
