Corporate Context

Infineon Technologies AG is a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing, recognized for advancing sustainable and efficient technology innovations. The company manages an extensive international supplier network, with approximately 43% located in the Asia-Pacific region, 33% in Europe, and 24% in the Americas.

To enhance transparency and improve access to supplier sustainability information across its global supplier base – while ensuring compliance with legislation like the German Supply Chain Act – Infineon sought a scalable, efficient, and collaborative platform for data collection and analysis. Above all, the solution had to be easy to adopt, impose no costs on suppliers, and avoid the introduction of cumbersome, resource-intensive processes for both Infineon and its partners. The IntegrityNext platform met all these criteria.

Key benefits of the IntegrityNext platform include its many-to-many architecture, which allows suppliers to share their sustainability profiles with multiple customers, its scalability for assessing large numbers of suppliers, and dedicated support services that help suppliers improve their performance.

Our decision to adopt IntegrityNext was driven by the need for a scalable, efficient solution that not only meets the requirements of the German Supply Chain Act but also fosters meaningful, long-term collaboration with our suppliers.

Project Description

Key Stakeholders

Infineon pursues a two-pronged approach to ensure that suppliers of all sizes and strategic importance are covered by the company’s sustainability efforts.

Every year, Infineon uploads all active tier-1 suppliers to the IntegrityNext platform for an initial automated country and industry risk analysis. Suppliers are continuously monitored for critical news. Those identified as having elevated country or industry risk, or high strategic relevance, are required to complete standardized questionnaires that assess their due diligence practices across five key sustainability topics.

In addition, Infineon partners with the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA), a non-profit coalition dedicated to advancing sustainability in global supply chains, including the semiconductor industry. Using RBA tools, Infineon evaluates the sustainability standards of its large, strategic suppliers. Insights from RBA self-assessments and audits feed into the IntegrityNext risk analysis, providing a more comprehensive view of supplier performance. The RBA Academy also offers valuable capacity-building resources to help suppliers address gaps and improve their sustainability practices.

The main departments involved in promoting supply chain sustainability are Procurement – specifically a team focused on supply chain sustainability – and supply chain experts in the central Sustainability function. Infineon invests in internal capacity-building, particularly for local buyers and category managers who work directly with suppliers. These teams are trained on sustainability requirements assessed via IntegrityNext and the RBA. By consistently integrating sustainability performance into business reviews and supplier negotiations, Infineon actively drives improvements across its supply chain.

Roll-Out

Infineon embedded the IntegrityNext platform into its procurement processes and tool landscape, making it an integral part of supplier risk management. Using IntegrityNext’s extended API, Infineon integrates supplier data into its own SQL database. Procurement and sustainability teams can then track and analyze supplier performance via a simplified Tableau dashboard, without requiring direct access to the IntegrityNext interface. The dashboard combines IntegrityNext data with other procurement metrics, automates tasks such as email reminders, and enables real-time progress monitoring.

The platform roll-out was a collaborative effort involving Infineon’s procurement and IT departments, working closely with the IntegrityNext team. The implementation took approximately three months and required minimal setup, allowing immediate use without a lengthy onboarding phase.

Key Outcomes

Scalability

The IntegrityNext platform enabled Infineon to triple the number of supplier assessments within just one year, achieving a response rate of over 95% and generating extensive risk insights.

Time Savings

Lean self-assessments and streamlined data collection have significantly reduced the burden on suppliers and the procurement team – while delivering high-quality information to support Infineon’s sustainability goals.

Seamless Data Integration

IntegrityNext data is fully integrated into Infineon’s SQL-based dashboard, giving procurement teams easy access to critical sustainability information and enabling more informed decision-making.

Enhanced Supplier Engagement

By shifting from one-off compliance checks to continuous engagement through the IntegrityNext platform, Infineon has improved the availability of sustainability data and strengthened supplier awareness of its standards.

Transparency and Compliance

By leveraging the IntegrityNext platform, Infineon has increased supply chain transparency with minimal effort – covering all active tier-1 suppliers and ensuring full compliance with the German Supply Chain Act.

The remarkable response rate of over 95% for self-assessments was driven by several measures:

  • Seamless integration of the risk analysis into Infineon’s supplier onboarding and annual strategic supplier evaluation processes.
  • Continuous internal communication on the status of self-assessment completion rates, with clearly defined responsibilities.
  • Comprehensive external communication with suppliers, including email reminders, support, and individual follow-ups by responsible buyers.
  • Automated reminders and expert support from IntegrityNext.
  • Lean, standardized supplier self-assessments requiring significantly less time than other solutions on the market.
  • Integration of RBA risk data, including pre-existing self-assessment results.
  • Availability of supplier sustainability profiles already hosted on the IntegrityNext platform and shared across the customer base.

IntegrityNext’s ability to integrate seamlessly with our existing procurement systems has allowed us to centralize our sustainability data and act on insights in real-time. The platform has become a cornerstone of our supply chain transparency efforts.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, Infineon plans to further capitalize on the IntegrityNext platform for long-term sustainability performance monitoring and risk mitigation. By continuing to invest in supplier capacity-building and leveraging the platform’s capabilities, the company remains committed to promoting sustainability across its entire supply chain.

Infineon also aims to position the IntegrityNext platform as a sector-wide standard for semiconductor companies that integrates seamlessly with the RBA, the industry’s leading coalition for responsible supply chains. This alignment allows peers and suppliers to benefit from synergies, enhance transparency, and maximize impact through the platform’s many-to-many architecture.

This approach is gaining strategic importance as Infineon intensifies its efforts to improve visibility into the deeper supply chain – an essential step in preparing for the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). The company has already conducted an internal pilot project to make use of existing expertise within its procurement organization and map the structure and regional distribution of its tier-n suppliers.

Drawing on the insights gained, Infineon recognizes that enhanced supply chain transparency will be a critical success factor in the years ahead – not only to ensure regulatory compliance, but also to build more reliable and resilient supply chains.
