3 Key Actions to Overcome Cultural Barriers to Sustainability

Today, sustainability increasingly pervades organizations’ various corporate functions and decision-making processes. However, supply chain efforts are often hindered by a lack of internal skills and failure to embed relevant thinking and concepts in routine workflows. In this report, Gartner provides practical guidance on how supply chain leaders can “effectively communicate the link between organization-wide sustainability goals and daily execution, close the sustainability skills gap and incorporate sustainability into everyone’s role”.

Gartner highlights three key actions to overcome cultural barriers to sustainability:

  • “Close the sustainability skills gap by assessing capabilities across foundational, technical and leadership skills and making learning and development (L&D) available and easy.”

  • “Empower employees to act on sustainability by embedding goals into existing workflows and incorporating sustainability into everyone’s role.”
