Corporate Context

Wizz Air is a fast-growing ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) headquartered in Budapest, Hungary. The airline serves around 200 destinations across more than 50 countries. It has been recognized as a leader in low-carbon air travel in the EMEA region, as reflected in its CO2 emissions intensity per passenger-kilometer. This achievement is largely driven by continuous fleet modernization, ongoing operational efficiency improvements, and investments in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development.

Wizz Air’s business model is built on a high level of outsourcing, relying on partners such as aircraft manufacturers, fuel suppliers, airports, ground handling operators, maintenance providers, and software vendors. As a result, business partners play a critical role in the company’s approach to risk management and regulatory compliance – particularly in the light of evolving EU legislation such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).

When Wizz Air first began assessing the sustainability performance of its suppliers, it relied on a manual, in-house Excel-based tool. The process was time-consuming and meant that only a small number of suppliers could be screened per year. In 2023, the company sought a more efficient, highly automated and scalable solution that would integrate seamlessly with its SAP Ariba procurement management system.

The key requirements included:

  • A pre-built SAP Ariba Connector for quick deployment and efficient data integration
  • A user-friendly interface for both suppliers and internal teams
  • Automated, standardized, and continuous assessments with customizable topics
  • Up-to-date evaluation criteria aligned with evolving regulatory demands
  • Full compliance support for CSRD reporting
  • No cost to suppliers and the ability to share responses with multiple customers
IntegrityNext met all of these requirements, enabling Wizz Air to establish a systematic, scalable supplier risk assessment process.

We chose IntegrityNext because it offered everything we needed in one platform: seamless SAP Ariba integration, automated assessments, and a proven track record in advancing supply chain sustainability – all without adding cost or complexity for our suppliers.

Project Description

Key Stakeholders

The purchasing and sustainability teams are the primary departments involved in managing Wizz Air’s sustainable supply chain efforts. In total, five employees regularly use the IntegrityNext due diligence platform.

In SAP Ariba, six colleagues are responsible for managing assessments and assigning questionnaires to suppliers. In addition, around 10 employees work with IntegrityNext data indirectly. The purchasing team uses the insights for tenders, supplier selection, and relationship management.

Wizz Air is also in the process of establishing a compliance committee that brings together experts from legal, sustainability, and purchasing. The committee will meet regularly to review assessments, evaluate high-risk suppliers, and determine appropriate follow-up actions when supplier performance falls short.

Roll-Out

The IntegrityNext platform was implemented in approximately four months, covering steps such as:

  • Supplier master data cleansing
  • Internal data validation
  • Process design for supplier assessment follow-up and cross-functional collaboration
  • Seamless integration with SAP Ariba

Wizz Air uses the IntegrityNext due diligence solution to assess key suppliers – those above a specific procurement spend threshold, with strategic business relevance, or subject to regulatory frameworks such as the CSRD. These evaluations are primarily conducted through standardized self-assessments across a wide range of ESG topics, including the corporate carbon footprint, environmental protection, energy management, human and labor rights, DEI, data protection, conflicts of interest, quality management, corruption, and bribery.

More than 350 suppliers have been selected for deeper analysis, with carbon emissions data and reduction targets being a top priority. As the company continues its growth trajectory, this number is expected to rise. In certain cases, the self-assessments are complemented by IntegrityNext’s automated country- and industry-risk analysis, along with critical news monitoring.

Once the assessment results are integrated into SAP Ariba, Wizz Air enriches supplier profiles with additional information, such as financial data from D&B. This combined insight, also leveraged by the IntegrityNext impact analysis, supports efficient and compliant decision-making across the supply chain.

Key Outcomes

Seamless SAP Ariba Data Integration

A highly automated, two-way data flow underpins the integration of IntegrityNext with SAP Ariba. Wizz Air transfers supplier data daily, ensuring new business partners receive self-assessment invitations within 24 hours. In turn, the results are automatically fed back into the SAP Ariba supplier management cockpit – reducing manual work and providing ESG risk scores for efficient follow-up.

Enhanced Process Efficiency

Wizz Air’s previous supplier assessment approach was highly manual and time-consuming, limiting evaluations to a small number of business partners. By adopting IntegrityNext’s automated due diligence framework – with standardized questionnaires and access to pre-existing supplier data – the company achieved estimated time savings of 70% per supplier assessment.

Strategic Integration of Supplier Risk Management

The implementation of IntegrityNext sparked a mindset shift in how Wizz Air manages third-party risks. It led to key process changes, including the strategic integration of sustainability criteria – particularly environmental, climate-related and human rights factors – into supplier tendering, selection, contracting, and relationship management.

In-Depth Supplier Assessments

Wizz Air evaluates supplier sustainability performance across a broad range of ESG topics, with a strong focus on carbon emissions. The approach delivers critical insights for regulatory compliance and minimizes the supplier burden through user-friendly questionnaires and the ability to share responses with multiple customers.

We went from manually analyzing only a few suppliers to evaluating hundreds through a streamlined, automated process – with daily data synchronization and instant assessment invitations. This has reduced the time required per supplier assessment by an estimated 70% and enables us to include many more business partners as we continue to grow.

Future Outlook

Wizz Air has outlined a number of key milestones to advance its sustainability journey in the coming years:

Net Zero Strategy

Decarbonization remains a top priority. In April 2025, the company launched its 2050 net zero roadmap. By 2030, it aims to power 10% of its flights with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend, a key pillar in reducing carbon emissions per passenger-kilometer by 25% – supporting both the EU’s ReFuelEU Aviation initiative and the UK’s SAF blending mandate. While the main focus is on Scope 1 emissions, Scope 3 emissions from fuel supply chains, capital goods, and purchased goods and services also play an important role. Large-scale SAF deployment will require close collaboration with industry partners, policymakers, and the development of a robust SAF supply chain. This, in turn, will introduce new supply chain risks that must be actively managed.

Supplier Transparency and Risk Prioritization

Wizz Air aims to further enhance visibility across its supplier network and leverage IntegrityNext’s impact analysis to identify critical risk areas and prioritize high-risk suppliers for targeted action.

ESG Rating Improvements

Improving scores from leading ESG rating agencies such as CDP, ISS ESG, and S&P Global is a strategic priority for Wizz Air, supporting investor confidence and long-term shareholder value creation.

Regulatory Compliance

Strengthening sustainability reporting and ensuring full compliance with the CSRD and CSDDD remain top priorities.
